Man killed in Dodge County semi crash identified

Authorities identified two people involved in a fatal semi crash on I-41 near the town of Lomira Wednesday.

Around 2:00 a.m., the Dodge County Sheriff's Office responded to a crash on I-41, north of Sth 49.

The preliminary investigation shows 26-year-old Anthony Cappello, 26, of Chicago, was driving a semi with a tank trailer north on I-41 and initiated a U-turn through the median to travel south on I-41.

According to the release, 66-year-old Charles Bate, of Appleton, was driving a semi with a box trailer south on I-41 and hit the tank trailer as it crossed into the southbound traffic lanes.

Authorities said Cappello was not injured in the crash, but Bate was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dodge County Medical Examiner. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Officials said I-41 southbound traffic was closed for more than six hours while the crash was being investigated.

The crash remains under investigation by the Dodge County Crash Investigation Team.
