RPD drug dog Ziggy, pictured with his handler, Officer John Campbell, alerted authorities to the smell of narcotics in a trailer loaded with watermelons on Thursday. The PCSD drug dog, Cesar, not pictured, also communicated a positive alert for narcotics in the watermelon shipment; however, no drugs were found.

Rolla, Mo. -
Two drug dogs, one from the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department and one from the Rolla Police Department, led their handlers to believe a semi-tractor trailer contained illegal drugs after the driver of the rig was pulled over for a lane violation on Thursday.
The entire cargo was unloaded at A-1 Moving and Storage in Rolla, and both dogs continued to alert their handlers to illegal drugs, but the only substance they found was . . . watermelons.
After a thorough search of the semi truck and refrigerated trailer by Phelps County deputies failed to locate any illegal drugs, the pallets of watermelons were reloaded into the truck, and the truck and its driver were released.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, a man who would only identify himself to the RDN reporter as Marion, said he was primarily aggravated by the three-hour delay.
“It’s not that I don’t respect what they do, but this is ridiculous,” Marion said.
As an independent truck driver, Marion said he was a little concerned about what they might find when they began the search because he did not load the watermelons on the truck himself when he picked up the load of watermelons in Arizona and began his trip to New York.
Marion said he gave the deputies permission to search his truck after one of the drug dogs alerted the law-enforcement officers to the smell of narcotics.

Can fool the dogs some times, but I remember when we used to inject Vodka into a watermelon, then why can't they inject drugs into the melon for later retrival.

Maybe he hauled drugs previously and the dog sniffed some drug residue.
