About 3 1/2 years ago I sold my '85 Corvette to make room for a camper I wanted to buy. The buyer was the uncle of a good friend of mine from Lafayette, LA. He was told that he only had a few more years to live and had always dreamed of owning a Corvette.
My friend remembered that I had expressed interest in selling the Vette and told his uncle Herb about it, and before I knew it his uncle was headed toward San Antonio to buy it and drive it home.
Herb was retired and as his new hobby he did a lot of work on the car, including putting in a 383 cubic inch 'stroker engine' and a host of other high-performance modifications over the last few years.
Unfortunately, Herb passed away several months ago.
I stopped in Lafayette last night to go have dinner with my friend, and he knew I hadn't seen the car in over three years, let alone hearing it run with the new engine Herb put in it. I took some photos as they cranked it up, as well as a video clip. (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v217/captchaos/?action=view¤t=CorvettePhotos071.flv) Beware: It's VERY LOUD!

What meant the world to me was the stories Herb's daughter told me about when he first bought the Vette home & how much he enjoyed driving it after I sold it to him. While I don't normally care to see what becomes of most of my cars I after I sell them, I was glad to see it go into the hands of a caring family who would enjoy it at least as much as I did during the 10 years I owned it. It still looks just as good as it did when I sold it three years ago.
Herb's family has decided to keep the car in his memory and drive it on special occasions.
