LOCKED OUT OF OPPORTUNITIES...CAN ANYONE HELP ME UNDERSTAND THIS?

The other day we were in atlanta (we came on our own) and was offered a load that just couldn't be justified so we turned it down. after a short while i did a status check...VRU 2-2 and discovered i was on an ETA LOCK for that load! after a couple of phone calls, i was told that when a load opportunity goes out to trucks, the trucks are put on an ETA LOCK until the load IS covered...this is to assure to the customer a truck would be available at a given time. i advised the dispatcher that i refused the load and do not want to be locked out from other opportunities and to remove the lock...after being told the 'computer' generates the lock and they connot remove it unless i or another truck covers the load, i was finally removed from the lock....so the question i have is; WHAT IS A LEGITIMATE BUSINESS JUSTIFICATION FOR LOCKING A TRUCK WITH AN ETA LOCK, DEPRIVING THE OWNER/DRIVERS OF ANY OTHER OPPORTUNITIES UNTIL SOMEONE ACCEPTS A PARTICULAR LOAD?

this lock will not show up on the c-link, macro 9...it only shows up on the vru. i have talked with several old timers...formerly from the roberts club and they have never herd of this. I have also received some other variations for this pratice but none of them make sense

thanks

I think this is a question for Mike

I have submitted the question to FedEx, so we will be patient and wait for the answer.

thanks mike. since i posted the question i have found i was locked on for two other loads (different times) of which i was never given an offer. one load was pre-dispatched to another truck for a next day pu...and i was still locked on that load. customer service said it wasn't supposed to happen that way and they weren't sure why i was never sent an offer. she contacted a facilatator and had it removed....of course during the time i was on lock i lost other load opportunities...truck payment coming soon and i spend a lot of time on eta lock!

Not a word, evidently it must be a touchy subject. Not sure why my inside person hasn't answered yet.
