IF YOU HAD PROBLEMS WITH YOUR TRUCK WHEN IT WAS NEW, AND AFTER A YEAR OR TWO THESE PROBLEMS HAD NEVER BEEN RESOLVED, WOULD YOU EXPECT THE DEALER TO STILL ACCEPT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE COST OF THE REPAIRS?
If the problem were there when the truck was new, it would be the responsibility of the dealer. He would be the one who would have to make it right. This is my opinion!
I answered yes... If the problem was shown and you have documentation to prove the dealer knew about the problem and gave excuses as to why the fix could not be performed (due to parts of scheduling problems with the repair facility) then the dealer is bound to stand behind their products.
The key to making this happen is receipts or documentation.

In the first year our truck was in the shop about 35 days on no less than 5 visits. Each time we were sent on our merrie way only to have the same problem re-occour.
We visited an attorney, who needed at least 3 documents to prove the complaint was not taken care of.
Problem is when work is done at FL dealer under warrenty,no paper work is given.I was able to get them to re-print one of the visits, but then they couldnt pull up any of the others. I think at this point they knew what I was up to.
Anyway with the help of a lot of negitive postings on the internet, they finally came up with a soluition.(A new download for the computer)
It will be a Cold Day in Hell before I ever buy another FL/MBE
Just as a side note...I am not sure if this is true of all repairs.. We replace alternators constantly...Once we had it done in CT Freightliner and I left with out taking the paper work. The next time the alternator went the next Freightliner was able to see all the work that had been done at any Freightliner for the entire we have owned the truck. So, they could see we still had warranty coverage...

Mcbride & Lonelyboy...this Freightliner dealership in Houston claims they can only retreive records from theeir shop.
I bought a year old F'Liner, & this I was told when trying to research the truck records.

I think what was going on for the 14 months this was going on,they stopped returning my calls and the records were unavailable. The dealer was even instructed by Detroit Diesel to not make any record of one of the fixes they tried.(Didnt work)
I most certainly voted yes. I had FL screw around with me about my Spicer tranny until it was out of warranty, then guess what. They agreed that there was something wrong with it afterall, but now it would be coming out of my pocket. :yikes:

I don't know how things are in the world of buying a brand new big truck, as I have never had one myself. But it should be no different than with buying a new car- If problems with a specific item or items are documented while the car is under warranty and are never properly resolved, the dealer and manufacturer should still be responsible for finding a resolution even after the warranty expires. Receipts documenting past problems could be used against the manufacturer in court if they refuse to correct the problem(s). :paranoid:
UT
BTW- My local Freightliner dealer in Buffalo can access any repairs that were performed on my truck or any parts purchased at any FL dealership where the VIN number was entered.

Mac, I carry a spare alternator and serpentine belt on our fl70.
I just replaced the alt on our truck a couple of weeks ago. I get reman 180 amp alternators out of Canada on Ebay for $85.00 plus 15.00 for shipping.
Freightliner wants 295.00 for them, and thats for the 140 amp. You can change one out in about 30 minutes.

Well lets try this again! last try just went into who knows where land!
I notified the parties involved by certified/registered with return reciept requested mail that I had issues that were not being resolved prior to my warranty expiring.
this way they can't say Geeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we didn't know there was a problem and we sure wish we could help you but you'll have to pay for the repairs cause your warranty has expired! SORRY
Well to date they're ignoring the letter and me but I can prove they knew of the problems prior to my warrantys expiring, and I may have some hope in getting things taken care of.
