View Full Version : ALK CoPilot Truck.
Anybody know where you can get the alk copilot for trucks at a good price?. Looked on the net, and cheapest price I found was about 400 bucks. Can something like this be found on some sort of shareware site? Is it legal to buy a used copy from someone who already has it?
I found what seems like a good deal on a new laptop at a local mom/pop style computer store. It has most everything on it that ya all have recommended on a new notebook for $1099.
I'm just hoping to find this CoPilot for trucks for less. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks.
Joe
Sorry but the cheapest I have seen it is $300 and that was a special at the truck show-
As far as shareware...we could only dream-
A friend of ours bought it at the truck show this year and had to call customer service to get another license number just to put it on his other laptop computer! Program was locked up tighter than a drum-He couldn't even make a copy of the data disk.

I'll poke around a bit, but if it is a small specialty company, it could be hard to find. I'll get back to you by 3 PM tomorrow at the latest.

Best I found on the COPilot software (Truck/laptop3 - USB) is $359
You can buy used software if the person who sold it to you has removed it from their computer, and does not use the program anymore on their machine. In that scenerio, be sure they give you the original disc, not a copy, plus any Certificate of Authenticity that it came with.
Any used purchase should be at a deep discount to make it worth the extra hassle.

2nd look, get it right from ALK for $299 (software only) or $399 (Software and GPS receiver unit)
They must have a pretty good grip on their product. I can't find any used copies from anyone but a fly-by-nighter
I bought one of these systems off of ebay for $125. I didn't have a laptop at the time, but set it up here on my desktop and everything seemed to be there except that the gps had no weigh of finding me since I wasn't mobile.
I ended up not doing the expedite thing, so I put it back on ebay about 6 months ago with a $125 reserve. It sold for $305. Sometimes you just fall into it. lol
I would be very careful of buying from ebay as it may have licensing conflicts, but the one I had seemed to be fine. Just some guy who bought it and wasn't happy with it. I would not even think of paying more than $200 for it on ebay.

Look at their upgrade prices. (ATK's) sometimes it is cheaper to buy microsoft or delmore's software for the reciver (you get to keep it) and send the software off to ATK for the upgrade. I think it upgrade is 99 bucks. (130 + 99 = 229)

Once again, Merk pops up, and smacks me down!! That is great advice, and the route I would check out very closely, rather than spending all that money goofy ol' Jimbo was talking about.
By the way, I used Delorme's software some years back, and it did me just fine. It was not geared toward Trucks, but that rarely presented a problem.

Actually Jimbo. YOU where right. I was WRONG. The upgrade program is for copilot anything EXCEPT truck. Just learned that on the "other" site. So, if you don't need the truck version, go my route. If you do, go jimbos.
However, you save 100 bucks if you have your own GPS reciver. Streets or DeLorme are 129 bucks. So, if you gotta have something while co-pilot is in the mail. your only spending 30 dollars more.

If somebody wants DeLorme's non-truck software, I'll look around to see what I can find. Just PM me or send an E-mail.
Thanks for the info everybody.
Since we are gonna be in a D unit, think we'll go with the CoPilot truck, even though it's about 400 dollars. I figure in the long run it'll be well worth it, especially the first time we get sent to some city with a few low overpasses. Lookin on the bright side, it'll be tax deductible.
Anyone using this with a laptop? How do you have it set up so that you can see the laptop screen while driving, and not have the laptop bouncing around.
Thanks.
Joe.

Another option that offers truck routing and GPS functionality is Route 66. It's cheap too as in about $40
Here is a link to their Winders version: http://www.66.com/route66/index.php
It is also avaiulable for the Macintosh. I have it on my desktop Mac workstation. One thing I don't like about it is the directions can be very annoying as it updates which way you should be going too frequently.
