License expired 14 months ago and he flunked the driving test the first time he tried to get it renewed
June 29, 2007
ANDERSON - Anderson County Sheriff David Crenshaw has been driving for 14 months on an expired driver's license. And he said he flunked the driving test the first time he tried to get his license back.
Crenshaw calls it a mistake he thought he had a 10-year license instead of a five-year license. Apparently, they quit sending out renewal notices. I just wasn't aware that it had expired, he said.
It had been so long since Crenshaw had a valid license that he had to take the driving test to get it back. He flunked on his first try.
I did my three-point turn backwards, the sheriff said. But I did OK when I took the test again.
Crenshaw said he was never pulled over while his license was expired and never had a reason to check it.
I'm human, just like everyone else, he said. It happens to lots of people.
