I think healthcare is a big issue in our job. Would we be able to unite O/O to build up a buying power to get some special policies on healthcare?
Many think on that when it is to late and the big doctor bills are coming in. Most of the drivers aren't covered as well.
I know OOIDA has a program and I have dental care with them, but there should be better and cheaper ways.
Any ideas on that?

Harry,
Health insurance has been a huge issue especially for the self employed. There are many shady insurance companies selling very limited coverage policies and you never realize how bad the coverage is until you go to use it. :omg: We switched to an MSA (medical savings account) a couple of years ago.
The nice thing is you set the deductible (can be as high as 10,000) ours is 3,650 and you set the extra amount to go into savings (at a minimum of $25 a month) That savings account accrues interest @4% and you can use the money in there for anything medical related including dental, vision or your deductible, etc. It also has many tax advantages as well. This year we met our deductible in Feb and since then everything has been paid 100%. Not perfect but it's a start.

I hope every body is posting about his policy

Another good invesment is Health/Disability policy through Aflac. We purchased ours a couple of months ago. It is now available to small business owners and it is a great peace of mind to know you'll have an income in case you are sick or disabled.
We've been owner operators since 95. I'll have to check out the new forum. Thanks.
