Just wanted to let you know about Mr. D's tire service in Barstow,CA.We blew out a steer tire about 50 miles east of Barstow and also ruined the aluminum wheel.

FECC was called,as we were under load and I told them to call someone who dealt with goodyear tires because i didn't want to mix brands on the steers.I also was in on the conference call to the guy that was coming out to verify the tire size and model, and to let him know that i wanted him to bring out a used steel wheel.(I didn't think buying a new aluminum wheel was a good idea at the time)

Well for whatever reason it took this guy about 3 hours to arrive, and he got to work. The shocker came when he totalled up the bill,$900+ to replace the tire on a used wheel. :yikes: :yikes:

This guy charged for everything, the tire, the service call, the mileage to where we were, and get this....$120.00 for the used wheel (and it was the ugliest wheel i ever saw)

So if your ever in need of tires in the so.CA desert and Mr. D is called,be prepared for the sticker shock.

I've had it, getting ripped of by repair shops and their know how mechanics. All these guides who tell ya how NOT to be taken in by these people doesn't solve the problem, these people shouldn't be even allowed to stay in business.

The repair shops that misdiagnose or put unnecessary work and expense in your truck is a serious problem, they should be ranked among thugs, not repair shops.

The other kicker is once you remove that nice new Goodyear steer tire from the POS used steel rim, its beads will never properly seat to a new aluminum rim.

If possible, it makes sense to carry a good, used all-position tire that's mounted & balanced on a steel rim as a spare. That way, all you would have to pay is for the service call, mileage, & labor to swap it out.

This is especially important if you're running a tire size or type that isn't commonly used on most Class 8 trucks (which is what most shops on the road will keep in their inventory).

My goodness seems like all I'm doing is listing the bad places but here we go again.

Last month, coming from Reno,Nv loaded at about the 280 in Carlin we blowed a radiator hose. The pilot truckstop recommended the guy across the street. said he was honet and reliable, works for us right?

Wrong. It took him about 3 hrs to supposedly locate the hose and then he charged us 282.00 for the hose and to put it on. So if you blow out near Carlin Nv, at x 280 dont use the tire place across the street
