Fleetowner magzine -- Written by Ken Simonson

Trucking executives told a US House of Representatives sub-committee on Sept 7 that they would rather pay for highways with higher gas taxes than new tolls. Douglas Duncan, president and CEO of FedEx Freight, said taxes could be collected with existing mechanisms, whereas each toll facility requires a new bureaucracy.

Chris Lofgren, president and CEO of Schneider National, said, "The [toll] collection process increases congestion; drivers have the option of switching highways, merely displacing congestion; the charges apply all day long, not just during congested times; and toll revenues are easily diverted to other uses." Tim Yatsko senior vice president for transportation at Wal-Mart stores, took a slightly different tack, saying his company supported tolls if the money was not diverted.

Trucking executives are not necessarily truckers...like many dispatchers, many of them have never seen the inside of a truck cab...

I have no idea what you are saying in reference to the tolls, But what you are saying does not have anything to do with the deduction that I was talking about. TOLLS are an expense and you are legally able to deduct them on your sole propreitor-Schedule C, or Corporate-1120S, 1120 Sch C. AS LONG AS YOU PAY THEM.

Wolf,

No Problem, Just wondering what you were pertaining to at the time of the post. I know Companies don't care about an increase in fuel tax, larger write off. but O/O's due it hurts the bottom line.

besides yet again they will probably end up instituting both higher taxes and decide to do tolls. So lose; lose in the end.
