I just got off the horn with my recruter at FDCC and says that solo's are making more than teams. Reason is, that there are more short runs than long runs....and thats sad......He also says that FedEx National LTL is just taking up the slack of FDCC.....What slack??? There shouldn't be any slack.....I think FDCC is going to be a thing in the past, if this keeps up!!!!

If there's more short runs than long, then teams should be able to make 2 of those short runs a day rather than the 1 that a solo can make, depending on the amount of miles. It's true that we haven't seen any really long runs in a couple of weeks but that could still be time/place situation.

As for the "slack", perhaps those are the crap runs for 1.10 and under that most of us won't run!! :yikes:

doubt a solo will EVER out earn a team but yeah the longer runs seem
to be drying up, noticed that while I was still driving team up til mid june,
talked to another fedex cc D team and they kind of concur with me about
the real long haul runs disappearing.
As I said before I believe that the hook up with fedex freight and now
with watkins becoming fedex national LTL a lot moire real long haul runs
will probaby be going to them.
FedEx's thinking is that the cutomers scared off by the sticker shock of
custom critical rates will consider the cheaper options of fedex freight or
national LTL rather than looking elsewhere to ship their freight, not sure
how much sales pitch goes into selling them either choice but got to think
with what I've seen out here they are probably taking some longer runs
that custom critical used to get.
On the other side of the coin, I've seen fedex freight runs come our way a few times too due to them not being able to handle it on time.
As a solo I've seen a lot more air expedite runs coming my way and
those pay exceptionally well, trouble is you don't get enough of them
or any other runs lately seems like rot time has increased and the
number of trucks sitting in any one spot seems to have gone up too,
got a feeling our fleet size is much larger than it was at the beginning
of the year, heard a whole bunch of conway drivers were flocking to
fedex cc after panther bought out conway's expedite division.

Maybe so but have you ever noticed how Fed Ex Freight HANDLES their freight? I think we might be able to put this in the same column with shippers who've tried cheaper expediting companies and came back to Fed Ex because their freight arrives in a more timely fashion and all in one piece! :omg:

teams cant run 2 loads a day, when the loads are set up like solo runs...pick up 2day and del tomorrow or nxt day...on most of the short runs....

I see what you're saying but before we broke down, it wasn't unusual for us to get one del in the morning, another short one during the day and another for overnight, starting the cycle all over again.

YES INDEED, I picked up some computer equipment from them that was
beat to death broken hinges, hole in the side etc.
watched them open the trailer and about 100 boxes fall out onto the
ground that they had to pickup and restack while digging for my load.
cost me an hour at delivery while the customer took pictures of the
damage, luckily I noted it on the BOL plus when I made my departure call
.

Don't recall too many short runs that weren't pickup now and delivery straight thru, when I was running team half the time we got another run
the same day we delivered if it wasn't in the middle of the night or in some
crowded express like Atlanta.
Of course an E unit is a different animal from the C's and D's we are
taking and delivering little loads while I presume your loads are much
larger and take much longer to load and unload.
I've talked to a few fedex E unit drivers that said they carry a lot of
small loads too, my C unit rarely carries more than a couple of pallets
and I'm usually in and out in 15-20 minutes unless it's for one of those
customers that are really messed up and you have to wait for them to
manufacture the product and package it while you are sitting there.
As for getting 2 short loads in a day, the first one has to be a less than
75 in order for you to return to the top of the queue otherwise you are
back at the bottom waiting your turn again.
In the back of your head you are always wondering if by taking this little
load am i missing out on a good one, sometimes you do and other times
that little load is all that goes out that day.

You must have me confused with someone who can REALLY DRIVE!!! We're not in an E, much too big for me. We're driving a D unit.

Are you kidding me?? :yikes: I've always said the best backing I do is to go BACK home or BACK into the mall. I wouldn't have the guts to even TRY to drive a TT!!!
