How does one get into this type of business? I have class a cdl but I don't like to drive the big combo rigs. I think I would be more comfortable with straight truck or even a van. I love the travel and driving and staying out 2 to 3 weeks at a time is no problem. Can any of you steer me in the right direction?

Thanks

Mare

Welcome to the site Uturn, there will be more people along later to help you but in the meantime, go to the home page and in the upper right-hand corner you will see links to 3 companies that advertise here. Check out their web sites for further information, and I know for a fact that all 3 will be along later on this forum to answer any and all questions. All 3 are great people and secure business men.

I hear ya. After living in a semi, driving a straight truck is like zipping around in a sports car.

You might want to try this link http://www.expeditecarrier.com/

The carriers listed have links to their websites, just click on a few and give them a call and see if they can help place you with an O/O who needs a driver.

Best to you!

Wanting to learn more about this business is easy. If you live near or know of some truck stops, go to them and talk to some of the drivers. At the bottom of the forums page are some company forums, like Con-way, FedEx, Panther and so on. Give each company a call and ask them to send you an info pack. This will also give you some ideas. Here is a web site called Express Trucking CLICK HERE (http://www.expresstrucking.com/) and you will get to the site which will provide numbers to the companies.

I will speak for all of us here on EW and welcome you to our forums. Please come back and visit us often, tell others we are here. Keep us posted on your research. Most of the members on this site are seasoned drivers and are always helping the new people. Here on EW, we speak the truth; you will learn it all, the good, the bad and the ugly. GOOD LUCK, and if there is anything we can do to help just ask!!!
