I'm used to the fact that what the dispatcher says the mileage for DH
and actual run can be off a few miles but lately they are getting ridiculous
last night I got a run gal said 19 miles to pu (it was 45) and 18 to the
delivery (it was 41) even after the outrageous mileage differences the run
still paid 1.85+ a mile.
Their DH numbers are usually the worse specially if you are rolling, i've
had them be over 150 miles off at times, makes you wonder is the qualcomm
that inaccurate or are the dispatchers hitting the crack pipe?

There are a few variables when it comes to the answer to this. I will attempt to give you somewhat of an explanation. Depending on where the QualComm polled you last, it may be off there. When you get the info over it you need to confirm that you are in the same place that it thinks you are. IF NOT, call dispatch and see if they can fix it for you. Some reasons this can happen are if you turned the truck and QualComm off before it got a firm fix on your position it will just go by where it hit you last. Some people can turn off the QualComm manually and some people can't. If you phoned in your check in because you had no signal it will only put you in the middle of the town or city, not in your exact position.

As for the P/U and DEL mileage, MOST times, it figures from the middle of the P/U place to the middle of the DEL place. The actual P/U or DEL may be N,S,E,or W of center. The same for where you get dispatched from. You may be in Atlanta, for example, and the directions to the P/U will be from the middle of Atlanta to your destination. If you are sitting at the Petro {YUK!!!} on the west side of town and your P/U is to the west, YOU WIN on this one. If it's to the east of there, YOU LOSE this time. The same with the P/U's and DEL's.....SOMETIMES YOU WIN AND SOMETIMES YOU LOSE.

Hope this helps.

This has changed by FEDEX , you get now the practical
miles and not the so called household miles. That should be the exact miles from pickup to delievery. That is what I understand , but I might be wrong.
The rest like Sparky said.

I beg to differ with sometimes you win sometimes you lose it's 99.99999%
errors all in their favor, it's very very rare that you come out driving fewer
miles than they claim it takes, and that's usually by taking shortcuts.
They continue to route you on closed highways (I-280 by toledo) even
though they've been told several times you can't go that way.
What I believe they do is route you to the edge of the city not the middle
and never count the local miles.
They were really off in Knoxville on all my runs out of there, I was on
the west side of town and all the runs were routed as if I was 10-12 miles
to the east.
I understand the qualcomm polling you every so many minutes or
whatever but give me a break, no truck travels 150 miles per hour.
Actually i'm beginning to wonder if this qualcomm unit isn't somewhat
flakey, they called me a few months ago asking where I was, told them
about 1000 yards from the pickup by the airport in Romulus they had me
showing in Detroit somewhere and I never even drove thru that spot.
Also the computer system at FedEx CC seems to be getting slower or
is just plain retarded, give them an 08 for layover and then an 09 to
check you status and it gives you a mismatch message saying you are
still deadheading or whatever same with delivery give them the 07 and
it doesn't register for over 30 minutes.
Told them they should fire whomever is in charge and let me overhaul
the system seeing as how i did that sort of thing for 35 years before
doing this.

Before we take off to our pick up we always check our mileages out with our gps, a lot of times when a agent makes a mistake on the mileage he or she gets a call from the wife real quick and they hash it out while I'm driving and more times than not we get our rate increased.

Alot of agents have come to know us and know that we're on top of our game and if more is expected of us than first agreed on then we need to be compensated accordingly, we'll give a little....to a point....then it becomes business is business and charity is out the window!

No doubt in my mind dispatchers are smoking crack and ripping lines, I ask them all the time when they offer $200 runs :yikes:
