Just before reaching Des Moines, IA. the other day the wife yelled and woke me up to let me know something was wrong with the truck, the truck had lost power and wouldn't pull and after pulling over and checking things out we limped down the road to the International dealer in Altoona, IA. just to hear that it would take at least 2 days just to get it in which wasn't cutting it with my wife, she asked the service write up guy who would he recommend because we couldn't wait that long and he recommended the Freightliner garage next door.
She called them and they got us in within an hour and had us going down the road within 2 hours.
The great folks at Freightliner of Des Moines did a good job at a fair price and I recommend them to everyone here, Tim was our mechanic and while waiting on a Trubo Boost Sensor from the International dealer next door he replaced the trucks rock screen that I'd bought sometime back and didn't charge anything extra to do it.
And they had a nice lounge (sidecar) with recliners 2 tv's ,kitchen and they let us bring in our truck dog too!

I had a good experience with Freightliner of Atlanta at their new shop on I85 by Commerce, GA. I blew out the air valve doo-hickey that switches ranges on my transmission a few months ago, and while nursing the truck along just saw the sign at night and pulled in, didn't even realize this shop was there. I pulled in at 2 AM and they opened the gate, wrote me up, and I went to sleep. A mechanic came out at 7 AM and woke me up and I went in to the nice lounge and watched TV. A half hour later they called me in to look at the estimate, and said they had all the parts to rebuid the valve. They also checked for any recalls on my truck and conformed the tie rod recall repair was already done. Along with that I had them replace my serpentine belt tensioner that I knew was wearing out, and an hour later was off on the road again at a very reasonable price. Good shop!

While deadheading home for New Years the other day the wife and I decided we wanted to get a diagnostic test ran on our truck to find out if all the injectors were firing or not.
Just before we reached Poplar Bluff, Mo. heading east on US 60/67 we spotted L.C.I. International where I asked if they could perform the test and was told sure! after we get done eating.
They ran the diagnostic and the service Mgr. even got under the truck and checked out the universal joints when I mentioned having them checked out as well.
Asked what's the damage ($$$) and was told not to worry about it, offered $20 just to cover the mechanics lunch and he refused it as well.
They really seem to be a bunch of good people and Coy the service Mgr. said if you ever have any problems....give him a call.

Good info Butch finding an IHC dealer that can get you right in is tough enough, finding one that can get you right in and treats you right is near impossible.
By the way were the injectors all firing properly? :noclue:

All of the injectors were firing ok but he mentioned that there could be an injector that was only partially spraying, and he said each injector has 6 holes and somtimes a couple may plug up.
The truck started running like crap towards the end of our last load and it was due for a PM so we had all the fuel filters changed and the truck ran strong for about 500 miles then it started missing at low rpms while pulling a hill.
The mechanic said I may have gotten some poor quality fuel (what's new) and it may clear up on the next fill up.
Been hearing real good reports on Lucas fuel injector cleaner so I may give that a shot in the near future.
Also the universal joints checked out ok!.....in a round about way I was hoping I had a bad one which could of been my vibration problem...back to the drawing board I guess.
Later!

wanted to let u know about two good repair shops we have run into recently. One is the Peterbilt repair shop off of I81 x 29 in virginia. They are close to our home and we decided to give them a try after the international repair shop at x7 kept ripping us off.
The peterbilt works on cat engines and they are quick and very reasonably priced. They dont try to sock it to you.
Another is the Kenworth dealer in Nashville Tn. X 213 off of I40. They are awsome. They are quick to diagnois the problem and just as quick to fix it. We had to have some injectors replaced and the cups. Fixed the problem in less than a day and didnt overcharge us either.
We are very pleased with these two places and will continue to use them. ;)
