I am in the process of getting my own authority and I am having trouble locating insurance that doesn't cost a absolute fortune. Perfect driving record for the last 18 years, anyone have any suggestions?

Insurance rates for the independent are exhorbitant. When first applying, they use the excuse of "new business" not enough experience...even when you've been driving/owning your own truck for many years.
It took about 5 years before my insurance rates stabilized. Meaning, increases for 4 years, now they stay about the same bankrupting rate.
Most insurance brokers can write policies only in their state, or immediate area. I eventually found the agency I use by word of mouth, from other independent truckers in the state. My agency consistently beats OOIDA's prices.
I did call my ins co, they can write only Texas residents. :noclue:
