I reccently won a victory!!! Im not sure over who-- but i wont dang it!!!
Heres the story. We all know about my little oddness about the door hinge breaking on my door. Well I want it fixed. Everyone kept telling me "dont worry about it just dont open it". NO. I want it fixed and I want it working.
So I have two options. I talk to Magnum truck and auto where I got the truck from. They have a body shop and everything. They said they were going to cut off the old hinge and weld on a new one. Simple sounding process. Price Quote: $245. :yikes: Not as simple as it sounds I guess.
Next step. Call junk yards. Ask for doors. IF THEY HAVE THEM AT ALL... non-damaged and sell able.. they are around $200. Ok.. um. Whats next?
Well Magnum said they were going to cut off the old hinge and weld a new one. So if I can get a hinge from the dealer -- ill have a friend of mine who has an auto repair shop... he said he would weld it. Cool! Off to the dealer...
At the dealer they said the price would be $120. And thats "if I got it today". Umm no. Well maybe I will just not use the door and keep it shut...
No. I want the door working. Ah! ha! **Doug calls a junkyard** Convo goes like this:
Doug: Yes I have a question. I have a 2002 Chevy Express Cargo Van. I talked to someone earlier about buying a cargo door for it. The side cargo door-- left one. The guy I talked to said that all the doors you have are no good right?
Junkyard guy: Correct
Doug: Ok heres my question. All I need is the hinge that attaches to the door. Thats all I need.
Junkyard guy: Aren't they welded on?
Doug: **cringes** yes
Junkyard guy: Well no problem-- figure on around $25.00 and give us a few minutes when you get here to give us time to cut it off for you. You said it was the one that attaches to the door right?
Doug: Yes.
WOO HOO!!! The same bloody bracket that Chevy dealer wanted to charge me $120 for... the same bracket that Magnum was going to charge me $245 for to install is now only going to cost me $25 plus whatever my friend is gonna charge me to weld it on.
Lesson learned: NEVER SURRENDER!!! THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY TO WIN!!!
