View Full Version : Beauty Secrets??
Hi Ladies, I'm wondering if anyone has any beauty tips for life on the road that they would like to share with the rest of us. We all know that we ladies are a "special" lot and sometimes looking our best can be difficult when we're running hard and showers are not a daily option.
We have a sink so I can do just about everything except my hair, well I can wash my hair but it's a complicated process. Having oily skin, my hair is the first thing to go south. Sometimes I use a product called No Rinse, just apply and rub out with a towel, not 100% like being at home but it'll do in a pinch!
We also carry every kind of wipey known to man! Even have wipies for the puppies when they get into that "not so fresh smelling thing" that they have in between their baths.
Anyone have anything they would like to share??
Hi Mare-
Yes, if you are a woman that needs regular primping and likes to taking hot bubble baths surrounded by candle light; this might not be the business for you.
I do know a woman out here that does her hair and makeup everyday! I hope she see this post and tells the rest of us how she does it! She also looks neat and pressed too...(how does she do this?)
We have it a little bit easier than some as we have a shower in our truck...a luxury I don't think I could go without now. This still doesn't get me out of living in pajama pants. I think I have a permanent hair clip bend on the back of my hair line now too..<sigh> I have never been a real "frilly girly girl" but the thought of a nice bubble bath with a glass of wine...some soft music...and a bed piled with warm fluffy down comforters and pillows...

Hi Ladies, it is so nice to see this forum. I have been reading around here for a few days and liked what I have read. We are a husband/ wife team on an E unit, with Fedex CC. We are at home right now but leave in a few hours to head to Laredo to unload.
Ok where do you find the "no rinse" hair shampoo, like you I have all kinds of wipeys, but need something for my hair, and I have looked and looked and cannot find any. I do keep a spray bottle full of water, and use that, but just not enough.
I would also like to know how the lady manages to look, pressed, LOL, I can only dream of it.......
Hi Shortfuse-
Welcome and when I find out how the heck she stays so neat and pressed I will be sure to tell ya, and then we can patent it. lol
Mare where do you get that hair stuff?

We too have every wipe imaginable. Having a sink onboard really makes it a little easier when running hard. Just being able to wash your face and brush your teeth makes you feel better.
We have a lot of closet space so our clothes stay fairly unwrinkled. <<<< Is that a word ?? I definitely don't iron the clothes we wear everyday but have onboard one of those travel steamers if needed. Picked it up in Walmart for around $20 and it works great. As for putting on makeup everyday . . forget about it. We pulled in next to a T/T one day in Kingman, AZ owned by a woman. The tractor had a lot of custom paint and murals on it, but the thing that caught my eye was what she had painted on the driver side door: "For THIS I shaved my legs!! ". LOL
Shortfuse and McBride, I have purchased the No-Rinse hair shampoo that Mare is referring to at Camping World stores.

Hi Ladies, I purchased my No Rinse at my local CVS pharmacy. I heard about it and went to their web site.. norinse.com... it gave me store info and such.
Ladies, if I may..I have this link in my favorties list.

My mom just had her hip replaced in Dec. They have a two story house in Ga, and there isn't a shower down stairs for her. Since I don't live close enough to help out, I did go to CVS and buy the shampoo caps, amoung a few other things for her. She said that she was glad I thought about it. Think it was about 2 and a half weeks before the therapist showed her how to get up the steps to be able to take a shower.
For anyone that can't get a shower regularly due to being in the truck, or because of surgery, I totally recomment.

How did McBride get that picture of my girlfriend? :dork:
She will be riding with us on the way down and back from MATS Tony. As my pickup has bucket seats, she will have to sit on your lap. I'll be sure to shave her before the trip :p :p

When you see her next, tell her that the ex-husband says HI.
That's right folks, he must be dating my ex-wife. sure looks like her anyway. She was what I call a "double bagger". She had a killer bod, but you had to put a bag over her head to get close. Once you got close, you were smart to put a bag over your own head to be safe, just in case the one on her head broke.
Now I'm not saying my wonderful ex-wife is ugly, but I **HAVE** seen a train turn off onto a dirt road to avoid her.
I could go on, but you get the idea.
... a train turn off onto a dirt road!
LOL!
Oh, but Jimbo, that begs the question...Why on earth did you marry such an ugly woman to start with?
I know, I know, I hear it all the time...she had such a great personality :)

I ordered some Emerald Plaza Uni-Brow remover to thin out those bushes. I think that along with a close shave will reveal the true beauty- she just doesn't photograph very well. Besides, beauty is only skin deep, right :kisses:

Yes U.T., beauty is only skin deep.........
But the ugly in my ex-wife goes down to the bone.
No Rinse alo makes a wipey you put in the micro wave, for that warm fresh feeling. I have seen them at the Petro in Atlanta. Also look for Bath in a Bag, (Google search). Better yet for those of you with a sink, use about an ounce of rubbing alcohol in your water, this is great for summer. For the hair problem, I use Jirmack shampoo because it doesn't lather much, I keep a quart plastic milk jug for washing hair and just step outside the truck to wash my hair. Of course at nite. Some of you may have seen me at MATS around midnight. Hey anything in a pinch.

I forgot to mention the best wrinkle remedy. Save some of your morning coffee and apply it to your face. After it's cooled of course. If if dig deep and research many of our more expensive creams have caffene in them.

I too use ALOT of wipes. And also have the hair problem, road dust and gunk. Been thinkin about the no rinse shampoo, will get some. I also keep a bottle of astringent and cotton pads to clean my face, you'd be surprised how much road dirt you get on your skin just driving in a close vehicle all day.
And as for the quart of water to wash your hair with? A quart wouldn't even get half of my head wet...lol And then there is rinsing, then conditioning, then rinsing again. See what I mean? I would need a hose hooked to a faucet.
I have been known to wash my hair in a rest area sink a time or two also. Whatever you have to do in a pinch right?

A & D oint. is great for dry skin....So is 'Bag Balm' But bacitracin or neosporin works good too..... All are sticky and have odor I don't like but can live with..... All are great for healing chapped skin. "Udderly Smooth" great for protecting skin....found in tube and tub form.... worked great on resolving recent surgical scar.
Body wipes for emergencies
Lipstick in soft color compatible with complexion
Deodorant stick
(Deodorant spray can be used on the soles of feet to decrease perspiration and foot odor... not my problem ;) )
Oil of Olay or Dove bath bars.
Nail clippers and file, and fingernail brush in bath kit.
Lightly scented body spray.
(Unfortunately, never had luck with nail polish..... My nails stay longer and stronger without it and a polish job adds attention to those hatefully heideous times when a glob of 5th wheel grease gets caught underneath one.)
Toothpaste, brush, and dental floss........
Gentle shampoo
Care free hairstyle
(for those with real oily hair...try dusting well with talcum powder --out side the truck preferably...work in to hair well and then comb out, and takes the oil and a lot of the dirt with it..... an old remedy when shampoos were not as easy even at home.)
A Smile, Courtesy, and Cleanliness go a long way to looking beautiful.

What are "timmies"?
It's a term used to describe coffee from Tim Hortons. Tim Horton's is sort of the Canadian equivalent to Dunkin Donuts,
although they have a few locations in the US now. :chug:

An air purifier is good for cleaning the air inside the truck and keeping you from getting sick and nasty looking while sick. And it keeps some of the dust out of the air. For road dust you get while driving you may want to check to see if you have a cabin air filter. Apperently a lot of people have really dirty onesw that they didnt realize they have.
Has anyone noticed the water from the showers dries out your skin. I recently went home for a month and my skin problem on my arms cleared up after about 2 weeks of water from that city.
