Well when I first got my van I wanted a van that wasnt white. I saw about 98% of the cargo vans were white and I wanted something different. Well this has become a pain. Let me give you an example.

A few companies I know of will only accept white vans. No biggy Ill just avoid those two or three companies. Well I called and talked to Dynamex. Everything was great! He said I would benefit because he has a lot of loads coming from my area-- the pay was a steady 76 cpm plus fs. Not this elevator crap I got now... 80 cents here-- 70 cents there-- 60 cents over there. Best of all-- CDL C not a requirment!! I was getting excited. Then the question came "Is you van white?" "Umm no" and I heard "aww" Because the recruiter sounded excited also because of my location. Then he explained that the vehicles need to be white. I said well what if I bought a white paper from sign pro and put that on the van-- then you put your lettering on the van. He said thats a good idea but it wont work because its company policy. So no luck for me.

Now Im faced with the decision to paint it white, stay where i am, or buy a new van. Buying a new van is outta the question. Barely can afford the one I got LOL  . Painting it? Well its an idea... the inside will still be burgundy but oh wells-- Ill call some places to see what the price of painting it is. Or I might just stay with Prestige and keep looking for a good company that doesnt require cdl, or white vans.

So let this be a lesson to newbie van drivers. Theres a reason why 98% of cargo vans are white!!!! Get a white one!!!! Unless you plan on staying with a company that accepts all colors.

Wolf, see if there is a MAAKO (sp?) in your area cheap paint jobs are their specialty. Remember earl shieb? (i am thinking wolf is too young)"i'll paint any car for $29.95" There are still a few earl shieb's in business, but the price has gone up conciderably (not sure what they charge now).

Just remember if you go the cheap paint job route to back way off from the vehicle in the quarter car washes. :p

I talked to Bill Schneider.... ext 253

I would like to go on with them because they pay 76 cpm plus FS. And since they got a lotta freight in my area -- it would be cool. I mean im turning things around to where i have a slight reserve with my company... but i want more LMAO

Another thing to watch out for is windows. If a person is thinking about buying a passenger van and using it as an expediter van, take into consideration all those windows. This is more of a security issue with the companies that might be interested in taking you on. And there are other companies that will not except vans over a certain age even though they are well maintained. We have a 97 e350 that looks great and runs like a top, no oil leaks, sqeaks, rattles or anything at over 380,000 miles. But a person would not be able to run it for some companies because of it's age.
White is the one way the companies can keep things uniform when using sub contractors.(I admit it......I am guilty of this myself)

I agree about the passenger vans being used as expedite trucks. Personally-- Im going to get blunt-- i think its a dumb idea. I mean Ive had a load now where they double stacked a smaller pallet on top of another. And I had one one time that when I turned a corner-- it slipped and hit the side of the van. If the van had windows-- it woulda broke those windows right out and went all over the highway.

I'm glad nothing bad happened when that load shifted Wolf.
Unfortunately if something happens during shipment it will come down to you. It doesn't matter if they loaded it, You are the one that needs to secure it. If you don't feel the way they want to load it is safe you have the option of saying no, I'm sorry this isn't going to work. It can be a hard thing to do, but it would be much better than what might happen down the road. Most of the people that help you load don't know or don't care what happens after you leave the dock, after all...it's not their responsibility after it's in you van. So, summing it up, not only do you have to know your job..you have to know everyone elses....

So please be safe out there!
